Join Paul for this one-day workshop exploring the traditional and endangered craft of split hazel weaving. Participants will split coppiced hazel rods, cut by Green Aspirations from coppice sites we manage in Central Scotland, to create the materials needed to weave a small basket. We’ll look at how to select good hazel rods and how to prepare the hazel for weaving before creating the basket. At the end of the workshop, you’ll have a wonderful split hazel basket to take away with you.
The workshop is suitable for beginners. It involves some knife work in preparing the different elements of the basket, and some hand and upper body strength to split the hazel.
