From Bases to Blooms: Improving Round Basket Foundations with Katy

  • Green Aspirations Scotland CIC Dykehead, Scotland, FK8 3JY United Kingdom (map)

In this full-day workshop, we will focus our attention on the round base, exploring the many different ways this fundamental foundation can be achieved. Designed as a deep dive into the "start" of willow work - the heart of any round basket - this session will give you the skills needed to take your weaving further, all while working at a relaxed, creative pace.

Throughout the day, we will explore different set-up styles and varied weaving patterns, moving beyond the basics for those who wish to. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with various techniques to create different textures and visual rhythms. Because this is a skills-focused workshop, the day is open-ended: you can make as many bases as your hands and pace allow (with a goal of at least two!). By turning these bases into stylized sunflowers, you’ll leave with tangible pieces that can be hung indoors or attached to a stake for the garden. This format makes the day perfect for absolute beginners looking for a starting point, or improving weavers wishing to refine their existing skills, or learn a new and interesting way to start a round base that you didn't know before.
