New year, new opportunities

New year's resolutions are not just about eating cleaner and remembering to hoover more (guilty!). It's also a great time for picking up a new hobby or giving back to local communities. And we've got plenty of opportunities for you and your friends to get involved this spring. Read on to find out more.

Get crafty

Whether you're new to green woodworking or an old hand with an axe and a whittling knife, we've got something for you in our spring programme. You'll see the return of many favourites - Introduction to green woodworking, Axecraft, Carve your own ladle and much more - which welcome all experience levels. And we've developed some of these old favourite to provide more in-depth learning, like the new two-day Knifecraft workshop. Gain new skills, hone existing ones and perfect your techniques as our expert green woodworker, Paul Cookson, teaches you what he's picked up over his many years being crafty! We'll be adding some new events to our calendar over the next few months, so watch this space!

We also have the pleasure of welcoming some of our guest trainers back to the woods! Sharing their knowledge and expertise we have Monica Wilde taking us on a woodland walk in late-April as we discover the wonders of foraging and preserving, and Wooden Tom teaching us how to design, carve and finish a Highland Cup this September. More guest workshops will be added throughout the year so keep an eye out for our updates on our Facebook page.

All of our workshops include the cost of tools and materials, hot drinks, plenty of cake and a fun atmosphere. We always have a campfire on and cooking equipment. And don't forget, if you received one of our gift vouchers for Christmas, you can use them on our workshops!

"This is a magical place where you can learn so much about trees and woodwork. Supported by a lovely team of experts, they will make you feel very welcome."

Work with us

Encouraging people to get into the woods is one of our main goal for our social enterprise. To coax you outdoors and show you the wonders of being out in nature, we've set up plenty of volunteering days at our main site and our coppicing site in North Lanarkshire. Help us with community projects and general site maintenance, while making friends, learning new skills and having fun. All current volunteering opportunities are listed below.
