Timber framing workshop

This weekend workshop will introduce you to the skills involved in making a traditional roundwood timber-framed building, our new on-site office, using timber from our woodland. Over the weekend, you'll learn about the hand tools used for timber framing, get involved with preparing the poles, laying out the frame, and creating the joints. With the wind behind us, we hope to be able to construct the frame by the end of the weekend. 

Saturday

We'll start with an introduction to the project, including the tools you'll be using over the weekend. You'll then get stuck in to preparing the poles, using a drawknife to remove the bark and smooth the wood ready for scribing the joints. They'll also be opportunities to create traditional mortice and tenon joints. 

Sunday

We'll add the finishing touches to the poles and joints before (hopefully) assembling the frame.

You can book for single days (Saturday or Sunday) or for the whole weekend. Weekend tickets include onsite camping. Please bring your own lunch and breakfast (if applicable). You can buy from our BBQ for dinner on Saturday. Suitable for ages 14 and above. We only use hand tools, so be ready for physical work! Cancellation policy  We do have to cancel events from time to time, usually for safety reasons in bad weather or when there is a weather warning. If we do have to cancel, we'll give as much notice as possible. We will seek a suitable placement on a similar event, rearrange the date of the event, or we can offer a refund. If you have to cancel, please tell us as far in advance as possible. If you let us know at least 7 days in advance, we'll refund your booking.
