About the Event

Join us for a workshop in the traditional crafts of coppicing at Glen Finglas the largest Woodland trust site located in the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and is part of the Great Trossachs Forest National Nature Reserve.

On this half day workshop you will visit areas that have been coppiced over the past two years. We will look at the tools (billhooks and handsaws) and techniques used in coppicing, with the option to do some cutting.

We will then use some cut hazel to make a plant support, usually for growing peas and beans up. This will include material selection, safe tool use to split and point sticks to build the plant support. All tools and materials are provided, please bring gloves.

The course is for people over 16 and will be fully outdoors so please come ready for the full range of Scottish weather. Access to coppicing areas is on woodland paths with some steep sections. Please bring snacks and refreshments. The workshop will be based at the Glen Finglas Visitor Gateway near Brig o Turk
