Autumn coppice and broom making

On this course we will continue coppicing hazel and make a birch broom. This will be the third year of cutting the hazel at Glen Finglas. In the morning we will begin this year's cut and look at regrowth in previously cut areas. Training will be given in use of tools used in this traditional woodland management. 

In the afternoon we will learn how to make a birch broom. Long before brushes, brooms were made from birch twigs and hazel sticks. All material provided and you will take home a broom.
